How to Build a Waterfall in a Fish Pond

The sound of cascading waters are such a music to ears, so if you are one of those who love nature and want to stay close to it all the time …you have full right to get it into your backyard in just few simple steps. It is always better to add the waterfall feature to your fish pond because it helps in better circulation of water and thus cleansing it automatically during the process.

Step 1 :- You need to get started with attaching a long ,flexible tube to a submersible waterfall pump. Now place this pump inside your fish pond. Easy right! Now just hide this pump behind several rocks or aqua plants which you would like to add as an enhancement feature to your waterfall. But remember that the pump should be raised from the bottom of the pond by about 5 inches for which you could place it on bricks or some more flat rocks. Also the intake openings need to be protected from getting clogged by impurities and pond debris for which various perforated sheets, gauges or filters are available in market.

Step 2:-Now the care has to be taken for the hose which is moving out of the pond, you need to hold it in place and also hide it from view. You can do so by using L-benders where required so that over the time there is no damage to the pipe due to maneuvering and it stays intact in its position. Again, once the track of pipe is laid you can cover it up by creatively placing some more rocks, be careful do not press the pipe!

Step 3:-Now comes in the part of adding visual effects to your waterfall. The whole look of your creation will come into action now. You can start by creating some steps using flat rocks, the cascade effect will come into motion due to these rocks so the placement of these should be right one after the other. And of course the rocks will bring the flow into the pond so they have to taper in from top to bottom. Giving the rocks a slight angle will also help in enhancing the effect.

Step 4:-Next you need to attach the other end of the hose to a waterfall adapter. An array of these waterfall pumps is available in the market and you can shop for it depending on the statistics of your pond, the power of the pump will be based on that. You should take care to channelize the water in such a manner that it doesn’t fall on ground or dirt as it would make the place quite messy. Also your pond itself should be deep enough to sustain the splash of waterfall and not spill out of the pond lining.

Step 5:-And just to add a word about the maintenance of this pond waterfall, you need to install some UV filters, bio-filters etc. a lot of variety of which is readily available. Also plants are the best natural filters of the pond so do place them appropriately in your pond.

If you are planning to build a water fall in a fish pond, it is necessary to consider the size and type of pond you are going to set up. The type of aquatic life which you are going to keep is another factor you need to keep in mind. To make a waterfall, you need proper deign, some quality components, and good technique with labor work. To make a properly constructed water fall, you need some creativity and patience.

Once you are through with all this, you are free to take pleasures of your creation…a fish pond waterfall!
