Puffer Fish

Puffer fish are known by several names such as – blowfish, swellfish, globefish, balloon fish and bubble fish. They are the member of tetraodontidae family. There are approximately 120 types of puffer fish. They are mostly found in tropical warm climate. It is quite admired by people because of their striking looks. Moreover, it comes in different colors and sizes. They have big eyes and a round balloon shaped belly. Most of the puffer breeds are only a few inches in length. This fish are quite unordinary and unique in looks. One can easily distinguish these types of fish. Puffer fish have very pleasing personality.

These fishes puff up when they get anxious therefore, they are named puffed fish. Owner should not try to take puffer fish out of the water when relocating them as puffing up in the air instead of water can be dangerous for them. Puffer fish hardly kill other puffer; they are more likely to kill other fishes. At times it can be hostile towards other puffer if they are not properly cared or if they are stressed out. Therefore; one must think before purchasing it or if you purchase it then make sure that you avoid keeping the two of puffer fish together.

Make sure that you choose a healthy puffer fish. The puffer you choose should not have graying or ragged edges as these are signs of rot tail. Try to have an active and healthy puffer fish as they are quite pleasing. The puffer fish should move around the fish tank actively. Try to avoid the puffer fish that just sits on the bottom of the tank. A non-active fish is a sign of an unhealthy fish.

Requirements of puffer fish:

The ideal temperature for this type of fish is 24 to 26° C. it is important for the owner to provide proper condition to the fishes if they want the survival of their fishes. This fish should be fed frozen blood worms and frozen dried shrimps or krill, plus frozen and live brine shrimp. Moreover, they like to eat aquarium plants as well. These fishes stressed out easily therefore, one should provide clean and healthy environment to its puffer fish. Try to maintain the pH level and temperature of the tank, so that the tank should not turn toxic. Make sure that your tank contains plenty of toys and place to hide, as puffer fish love to play and hide in.

When you are adding new fish to the tank then make sure that the fish you are putting should be less aggressive as they can fight with each other. Puffer fish are quite aggressive therefore, it is important to put calm fishes in with them. Puffer fish are more likely to kill other fishes. It is essential for the owner to meet their entire requirement if you want them to survive for long.
