Purple Parrot Fish
Purple parrot fish is a member of scaridae family. This fish has a small mouth and a rounded balloon shaped body. The average height of this fish is 6 inches and maximum, they can reach up to 8 inches. The ideal temperature for a purple parrot fish is 70-82° F. This fish is of bright red color with a few parts of the coloration so deep and brilliant that it looks to be purple. Therefore, it is named Purple Parrot fish.
Purple Parrot fish is a bit shy in nature when they are introduced to the fish tank. After short period of time, they will overcome this shyness. They might take less than a week or a couple of months to adjust in a fish tank. Therefore, one should be patient with the purple parrot fish. They also have some other dissimilarity, the spines of purple parrot fish are deformed which provides them some unique shape and the iris of its eyes is overtly large. Moreover, purple parrot is quite an awkward swimmer.

They make a good company with angel fish, peaceful catfish such as - Corydoras and Glass Catfish, Kuhli Loaches, Swordtails, Tetras, Plecostomus, and Silver Dollars.
Purple Parrot fish have many features that make them different from other cichlids. This fish can’t close its mouth; as a substitute it uses the throat muscles to chew the food. Moreover, they can easily eat from the surface of the tank. Since they are omnivorous therefore, they will generally eat all kinds of live, fresh, and flake foods. To keep them healthy it is essential for one to provide them with high quality flake food or pellet daily. One can also feed them brine shrimp either live or frozen or blood worms as a delight.
Small purple parrot fish requires a 30 gallon tank, whereas for adults 55 gallons is recommended. These fish require slow to moderate moving water along with a good effective filtration system. Make sure that the fish tanks have low to moderate lighting. They prefer substrate of fine dark sand along with rocks and roots to hide along with a wide area for swimming. One can also decorate its tank with plants as they will not bother purple parrot fish.
These fish can be easily cared if one changes the water of his fish tank frequently. It is important to maintain water quality of the tank if you want the purple parrot fish to survive.
