Aquarium Lighting and Fish Tank Lighting
Assuming the aquarium is going to be covered with a hood, the most suitable method of lighting is with fluorescent tubes. Tubes suitable for aquariums are very much the same as household ones and are available in various sizes. Do not buy a fluorescent tube exactly the same length as the tank; always buy the next size down so that it will fit inside the hood. You can alter the appearance of the aquarium with various types of tubes, including ones that enhance the red colors in fish and plants,as well as 'cooler' daylight balanced tubes that give a more neutral light.
This is a close zip of the airline running from the air pump into the uplift tube of the under gravel filter. There is a non-return valve fitted in the airline that will allow air to pass into the tank but will prevent water passing hack into the pump should it fail. Since the end of the airline is submerged below water, there is natural tendency for siphon flow to start up that would eventually drain the tank down to the level of the tube opening. Another way of guarding against this happening is to position the air pump above the level of the water in the aquarium.
You can mix tubes of different sorts to get the best of both worlds.Keep lighting well away from the water and always use waterproofed on the tubes; water and electricity do not mix!
If the aquarium is not going to be covered with a hood then there are other possibilities. Spotlights mounted on the wall above the aquarium and allowed to play down on the tank at varying angles can make dramatic effects. Shadows cast by intense spotlights, such as those fitted with metal halide bulbs, make superb places for timid fish to hide inland also give the tank a dramatic appearance. The movement of the water surface also creates very effective rippling patterns on the gravel .Mercury va pour lamps are ideal for lighting an aquarium. These very powerful bulbs burn incredibly white and use very little electricity compared to their light output. They can be mounted from the wall or direct from the ceiling above the tank. Avoid using ultraviolet tubes for safety reasons; looking directly at them can cause eye damage.
There are no fixed limits to lighting levels, all you need is enough light to be able to see the fish, so if the tank is in a bright spot, there is no need to have a light. However, if you plan to grow plants in your aquarium you will need at least 4 watts of light per 4.5 liters (1 gallon)
There are various kinds of fish tank lights available in the market. The type of lighting you will need depends on the type of tank system you have installed. You can use a basic fluorescent lighting in your tank. While you are choosing a lamp, consider the spectrum of the lamp, which is the range of distribution of light. The rule for lighting in the tank is using minimum of 0.14W.

Aquarium lighting is important as it supports the photosynthetic plants of invertebrates. Most of the lighting systems consist of basic components like the reflector, lamp, socket, ballast, and an electrical wiring which will connect all the components together. Placing a high quality reflector will increase the amount of light your tank receives.
