  8. pH level: It is important to test the water of the tank once a week for a normal pH and ammonia level. The optimum pH for tropical fishes is 7.0, for angel, for discus fishes it is 6.5, for goldfish and brackish fish it is 7.5 and for saltwater fish is 8.4.
