Clown Rasbora Information

  • The original homeland of the fish is Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
  • The fish grows up to the size of 10 cms or roughly 4 inches.
  • In wild the fish mainly feed on worms and small sized invertebrates. The fish is captivity accepts almost all kinds of food items including live food, frozen and prepared food.
  • Since the fish is a tropical fresh water fish the ph level of the tank should be ideally in between pH 6 and 6.5 and the DH of the temperature to be around 10. The temperature maintained in the aquarium should be around 25 to 28 degree Celsius.
  • The fish is very active is would like to swim freely in the open spaces of the aquarium. So, you aquarium should be well planted as well as must have enough space to swim across the tank. The tank must hold not less than 250 liters of water.
  • The most popular rasbora among fish breeders is the Harlequin Rasbora or Rasbora heteromorpha. Among the rasboras the clown rabora is also very common. The color of the rasboras range from orange, brown to red. It would be quite interesting to watch the typical pattern of stop and swim motion while in a shoal.
  • Even though the fish can be found in shoals but the general tendency of the fish is to stay in pair. Unlike other rasboras that are mainly found in shoals the clown rasbora would likely to prefer in pairs.
  • The common habitat of the fish includes waters of streams, lakes, ponds, rivers and even ditches.
  • In a crowded aquarium the male fish can become territorial in nature during the time of breeding.
  • The fish is egg scattering and has the habit of eating their own eggs like other fish breeds. The fish can not be bred very easily and in most6 cases the fish that are kept in the aquariums are not captive bred and rather they all are wild caught.
The female fish has slightly swelled body while. In order to identify the male and the female you should know that the pigmentation of the male fish is more dark and bright in appearance than the female. The clown rasbora is almost similar in appearance of the Harlequin Rasbora even though the clown variety is slightly larger in size than the former one. The average size of a clown rasbora is 4 inches while the Harlequin Rasbora grows for about 2 inches of length.
