Hemiodopsis semitaeniatus is also known as silver hemiodus. It is mainly found in the middle and lower parts of Brazil. It is also found in South America’s Orinoco River and the neighboring rivers. These fishes are 6-7cm in size. They are small size fishes.

Silver hemiodus have a shiny silver body. They possess a black eyespot on the silver body. These eyespots are mainly on the flanks of the fish. The lower lobe of the tail fin of silver hemiodus is marked with a smoky grey oblique band.

These fishes are also known as peaceful schooling fishes. They are well suited to large community systems. While preserving them, they should be kept in groups of at least six specimens. Their feeding is not a major problem. They eat anything which is served, though small fishes are preferred. Frozen foods are too accepted by the silver hemiodus.

Silver hemiodus needs lots of swimming space. Strong water current is more suitable for their lifestyle. They are also known as exceptional jumpers. So, they require lots of space to swim.

They are adaptable to the climatic changes in water. They are very quiet in nature. Hemiodopsis semitaeniatus is fish which prefers swimming in deep water, but most of them like to keep these fishes in an aquarium.
