DESIGNATION: Tropical.
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Lake Malawi.
SIZE: Up to 15 cm (6 in).
WATER PREFERENCES: Hard, alkaline waterbetween 22-25°C (71.5-77°F) preferred.DIET: Most foods; a regular vegetablecomponent is essential.
BREEDING: This is a typical maternalmouthbrooding species.
DESCRIPTION: The down-turned mouth is a clear indication of the bottom-feeding habits of this species, which spends agreat deal of time grazing on algae. Severalcolour morphs are available of this specieswhich, like many others from Lake Malawi,can be quite aggressive in aquaria.
