GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: LakeTanganyika.
SIZE: Up to 10 cm (4 in).
WATER PREFERENCES: Hard, alkaline waterbetween 22-25°C (71.5-77°F).
DIET: All foods; regular animal and vegetablecomponents should be provided.
BREEDING: Eggs are laid in caves, usually onthe roof, and are guarded by both parents.The fry are also protected.
DESCRIPTION: Althoughtranscriptus is territorial it generally showsremarkable tolerance towards its older frywhich are often allowed to remain close totheir younger brothers and sisters. Other members of this attractive genus aredickfeldi, J. marlieri, J. ornatus and regani.
