Schwanenfeld's Barb
COMMON NAMES: Tinfoil, Goldfoil orSchwanenfeld's Barb.
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Barbus schwanenfeldi.
SYNONYM: Barbodes schwartenfildi.
DESIGNATION: Tropical.
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Widedistribution in the Far East.
SIZE: Up to 35 cm (13.8 in) but usuallyconsiderably smaller.
WATER PREFERENCES: Not too critical butsoftish water is preferred and raw waterdetested. Temperature: 23-55°C (71.5-77°F).
DIET: All foods - vegetable component isessential for prolonged good health. Tinfoils will often eat all the soft, succulent plants inan aquarium.
BREEDING: Not the easiest Barb to spawn.When it does spawn, however, more than 500eggs will be laid in typical Barb fashion.
DESCRIPTION: Although this is alively but non-aggressive species, the largesize can create problems for smaller fish.Tinfoil Barbs are also excellent jumpers, so agood aquarium cover is essential.
