Spike Tailed Paradise Fish
COMMON NAME: Spike-tailed Paradise Fish.
SCIENTIFIC NAMES:
(i)Pseudosphromenus cuparzus;
(ii) P. dayi.
SYNONYMS:
(i)Macropodus cupanus cupanus;
M.c.-dayi.
DESIGNATION: Tropical, but can tolerate upperend of the coldwater range.
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: (i) Coastalregions of India and Sri Lanka; (ii) Burma,Sri Lanka, Sumatra and Vietnam.
SIZE: About 7 cm (2.8 in).
WATER PREFERENCES: Not critical.Temperature: 18-25°C (64.5-77°F).
DIET: All foods.
BREEDING: Bubblenests are built by males onthe surface or under a leaf. Parental care ofeggs and fry is carried out by the males.
DESCRIPTION: These elegant,tolerant fish have traditionally been regardedas members of the genus Macropod.. Recentwork, however, indicates that they are notquite as close to the 'original' Paradise Fishas previously thought. In keeping with modern trends, therefore, I have reflected thisline of thinking by referring to both these fishas members of the genus Pseudosphromenus.
