Sharks

SharksAlthough these fish are often referred to as sharks, there is no chance of losing an arm or a leg to any of them! The word shark has become assigned to them because they have a very active and similar swimming pattern to the marine terror. These sharks are relatively peaceful, although they can chase the odd tank occupant about a little. Other fishes may find their activity disruptive.

The red-finned shark (Labor earthnuts) is a close cousin of the red-tailed black shark and also stems from Asia. The body shape is virtually the same, except that this species is slightly more slender than its cousin. The body co lour is a deep and all the fins are orange or red. This fish grows to about 15cm (6in) or little more and requires the same care and feeding as the red-tailed black shark.

Slim and horizontally compressed, the silver shark (Atlantic helicopters) is one of the largest sharks, growing to 20-23cm (8-9in).These very active fish need stank at least 90cm (36in) long. The water temperature should be about 24°C (75°F), but otherwise the water composition is unimportant. Offer a varied diet, including flake food, freeze-dried Tubbier and live foods, such as chopped earthworms. Like most sharks, this species is jumper, so always cover the tank.

The red-tailed black sharks (Labor bicolor) from Thailand are probably the most popular of the sharks. Red-tailed sharks are best kept in small shoals and prefer warm water of about 25.5°C (78°F). They eat most dried foods and relish live Daphnia and bloodworm; be sure to provide a food that sinks. This very active fish can grow as large as 18cm (7in); a 90cm (36in) tank will suffice when the fish is juvenile, but adults need a 120cm 8in) tank. This fish Lisa jumper, so keep the tank well covered with fairly thick, heavy glass.

Angel Shark

The angel sharks have compressed body and wide pectoral fins. Generally they are not violent in nature as such, they bite when you will try to catch them or tease them, and if they are alone they will not hit any one. These sharks are bottom dwellers and they live almost on the ocean floors. Angel sharks are found in Pacific Ocean, from Southern Alaska, USA to Baja etc. Angel sharks are not good swimmers.

Basking Shark

Basking shark is also known Sunfish because it spends most of its time at surface to get the sunlight. After the whale shark this is the second largest living shark. Basking shark is found globally; it is very massive and has large mouth. Temperature requirement of the this shark is 8 to 14 ° C or 46 to 57 ° F. They migrates from one place to another depends on the season. Red Sea, New Zealand, coast of China and Japan etc are home to basking sharks.

Whale Shark

Scientific name of the Whale shark is Rhincodon typus. This is the world’s largest living fish; Whale shark can grow up to 12.2m or 40 feet lengthwise, its weight is up to 13.6 tones. Tropical and warm temperate seas are home to Whale sharks.
