Types of Fish

A fish is a cold-blooded, backboned, aquatic animal that lives in almost every region of the World. They are the oldest vertebrates. They differ in size, shape and color. Fish are one of the favorite pets. Their maintenance is lower costing than many other animals. A few of the fish famous as pets are Gold fish, Betta and Cichlids etc. There are 28000 species of fish found in the world. We have segregated the species and types of fish under different heads;

1. Fresh water fish – These types of fish spend their entire life in fresh water bodies such as lakes, rivers with salinity less than 0.05%. 41% of fish are found in fresh water. Fresh water fish differs from salt water fish physiologically. To pet a fresh water fish you'll need to purchase gravel at one pound per gallon and a filtration system. Be sure to choose a filter that's powerful enough to be effective in the size tank you're starting. If your aquarium tank doesn't come equipped with a filter you'll need to buy one separately. A few examples of fresh water fish are, African butter cat fish, Betta fish, Gold fish, African cichilid, Akar betta and so on.

2. Marine fish – These fish dwell in sea water. They are also called “sea water fish,” There are about 15000 species of this fish. To pet a marine fish is a challenging hobby. A big tank is vital for marine life as maximum stocking densities are lower than for freshwater aquaria Most of the marine fish need tropical climate for healthy survival. Marine fish are more colorful than fresh water fish. Marine fish can not be domesticated easily as they have a wild temperament. Therefore their compatibility should be checked before putting them into tanks. Some of the famous marine fish are, Blue whale, bottle nose dolphin, Cuttle fish, Goblin shark, Whales, Jellyfish, Lion fish, Star fish etc.

3. Tropical fish – These fish require warm, medium temperature to live. They consist of both salt water and fresh water fish. They are very popular aquarium fish. A few of the famous tropical fish are Cat fish, Guppies, Sharks, Flying fish, Puffer fish. You should regulate the air flow of the aquarium at 2 liters per hour if you have tropical fish as a pet. Avoid adjusting water temperature abruptly. Tropical fish have narrow optimum temperature ranges and do not usually tolerate sudden changes in environment.

There are certain fish which mature in salt water but migrate to fresh water for breeding such fish are called migratory fish like, Eels, rock fish, Salmon etc. Fish are very attractive to look at. Houses and offices are a perfect choice for your aquariums. Fish are pets which do not require strenuous care, also an aquarium just adds to the dйcor of the room therefore fish keeping is one of the popular hobbies.
