Freshwater Fish Breeds

Freshwater Fish BreedsWatching brightly colored fish in an aquarium is highly engaging. In fact there are some species of fish that are quite interactive with their owners. They make faces or play games that would add to your level of amusement when you spend time with them. Fish can be of various breeds. Some are accustomed to salt water while some would prefer to live in fresh water. Freshwater fish breeds are of great variety. You may get to select a good number of fish of different species that survive in fresh water. But before establishing a freshwater fish aquarium, make sure that you know proper ways to keep the tank clean.

To keep your fresh water fish breeds unharmed and healthy you are supposed to clean your tank well on a regular basis. The following are some freshwater fish breeds that can be your ideal pet if you are well aware of the steps of taking care of them efficiently.

Some Freshwater Fish Breeds

Goodeid Fish – The fish is also known as Butterfly Goodeid. The scientific name of the fish is Ameca splendens. This fish is a tropical fish but can bear temperature up to 20 degree Celsius. Since the year 1970, the fish had been commonly kept as pet by animal lovers. The embryos are comparatively large in size and some of them may turn out to be fin nibblers. So, if you prefer to keep a community tank you should rather drop the idea of keeping Goodeid fish as pet. This fish has a very unique process of reproducing young ones.

The fish can eat up any food suitable for fish diet. But vegetables as their regular diet are preferable.

American Flagfish – The American flag fish is scientifically known as Jordanella fondue. They are primarily tropical fish but they have the capacity to tolerate the upper layer of the cold water streams. They generally grow up to 6cm. These fish can live up to the temperature ranging from 19 to 25 degree. The fish can have all types of food but it should be given vegetable components on a regular basis.

This fish can use two methods of hatching eggs; either it can spread the eggs by laying them on vegetation or they can dump their eggs in the depressions. The parental care is taken up by the male fish.

Bronze Catfish – The bronze cat fish is also known as Bronze Corydoras and its scientific name is Corydoras Latus. This fish prefers slightly alkaline water. This tropical fish can tolerate the temperatures of the upper end of the cold waters. The eggs of this fish are highly adhesive in nature and the female fish carries the eggs for quite sometime in their cup pelvic fins. As the eggs get bit matured the fish lays them either on rock surface or plant surfaces. The fish is quite natured and stays in shoal. The temperature between 18 and 26 degree Celsius is the ideal environment for the fish to survive.

Dwarf Gourami – The scientific name of Dwarf Gourami is Colisa. The fish thrives best in tropical climate. The male fish takes care of the young embryo. The fish survives in the temperature range of 24-28 degree Celsius. This fish can have any diet that would be ideal for all freshwater fish breeds. Though fit for staying in a community tank but the male breed can sometimes become wild and aggressive and may trouble even the big fish of the tank during the breeding season.

On a visit to a pet store you will also get to find many artificial freshwater fish breeds. They can be of various colors and are quite attractive in look.
