Furioso Horse
Origin: Hungary.
Height: Average 1 6hh.
Color: Black, dark bay, bay-brown, often with white markings.
Character: Active, intelligent and tractable.
Physique: Handsome saddle/carriage horse. Medium-sized, attractivehead, well-carried on long, strong neck. Powerful, sloping shoulder, deepchest, prominent withers. Long, strong back with well-sprung ribs. Muscular,sloping hindquarters, tail rather low set on. Strong, clean legs with hockswell let down and short pasterns. Action free and straight and very slightlyexaggerated.
The Furioso is an elegant and versatile saddle horse, popular in its nativeland and in adjacent countries such as Czechoslovakia, Poland, Austria andRumania. It excels at dressage and cross-country work, at jumping andeventing, and is used for steeplechasing (Soviet block countries frequentlyuse halfbred horses for this purpose). Additionally, it is an imposing carriagehorse, possessing both style and great endurance.
It has been bred in Hungary since the mid-19th century. The foundationsires were an English Thoroughbred named Furioso, foaled in 1836, and aNorfolk Roadster called North Star. These were bred to native mares of theNonius type.
