Horse Fence
The main aim of using horse fences is to guard your grazing animal and leave them in a safe and secure environment at ranch. It is good to have a fence for your horse as it safeguards your horse and keeps stray dogs and unwanted visitors out of the farm.
It is important for the horse person to have best fence for his horse. Some of the best horse fences are mentioned below:
- Wood rail fence:it is also known as wood board fence. It’s attractive and relatively economical. The limitation of this fence is that it requires regular maintenance to keep it looking good. Horses can run through this fence if spooked. Mostly horse men use a strand of hot wire on the top rail to deject pushing of the wood and chewing on it.
- Pipe fence: this fence has been accepted in many parts of the world. It’s attractive but expensive to install. It requires little upholding and are long lasting. Since this fence has high visibility therefore most horses don’t run out.
- Vinyl fence: these are also known as PVC fence. This fence is really eye catching and comes in variety of colors and styles. The reason for its popularity is that it doesn’t require painting and horses don’t chew it. However the major drawback of this fence is that the rails can pop out if horses push them. This fence doesn’t hold horses well.
- Electric horse fence: This fence is controversial as it hurt horses and is helpful in keeping the horses inside the pasture. The electric horse fence is simple, the circuit completes only when the horse comes in contact with the fence. When the horse touches the fence allows the charge to pass. This charge results in a mild shock which prevents them from coming out of the pasture.
- Wire mesh fence: it is also known as woven field fencing. The one thing to be kept in mind while working with this fence is the size of the mesh opening. Make sure the size you use is small enough to keep your horse’s hooves out. It’s not that much visible so mostly people use flagging tape or wood top rail to improve visibility. Since vines loves to grow on wire mesh therefore this fence is not suitable for the one who live in an area where vines are common. It is difficult to remove vines once they are grown in your fence.
- Braided Wire Cable Horse Fence: this fence is durable and a highly visible fence. It doesn’t require much upholding. However it has certain drawbacks. Mostly horses rub on it and it easily gets stretched if one’s horse pushes it.
- Buck and rail fence: this type of fencing is popular in rocky mountainous area because installation doesn’t require digging holes. It is animal friendly as it doesn’t contain wires whereanimals can get twisted in. It is attractive and practical as well.
The above mentioned horse fences will serve as some guidelines to select an appropriate fence for your horse.
