Horse Rug
The horse requires a jute night rug and a lightweight rug to wear underneath it in cold weather. These are made in various lengths,measured in inches from the buckles on the breast to the rear edge. They come in various weights depending on the quality of the jute, the woolen lining and fittings.
Other rugs are available which are convenient but more costly. A multi-purpose rug is made in quilted nylon which is smart in appearance, machine-washable and serves as a day, night corralling rug. A sweat rug, made on the string vest principle, is useful for drying off a hot, sweaty horse or for providing extra warmth under a day rug in cold conditions. It should not be left on at night as it may become damaged when the horse lies down .A cotton summer sheet is useful on a hot day to protect the horse from flies, dust and the sun. Colored woolen day rugs are available and whilst they are very smart and practical they ar every expensive. All rugs should be secured by a roller or sourcing a fillet string.
The grass-kept horse requires, at certain times of the year, aNew Zealand rug. This is a canvas, waterproof rug giving very good protection and is wool lined for added warmth. It has secure surcingle and thigh straps which, when correctly fitted,
