Aquatic Pet Turtle

Aquatic turtles are quite admired by people as a pet because of their dazzling looks. These water pet turtles are difficult to maintain and care for. They require intense labor and care as compared to other pets. Since it requires proper care and attention, it is not meant for children. It is significant for one to fulfill basic requirements of aquatic pet turtle in order to make them survive long.

Requirements of aquatic pet turtle:

  1. Diet of Aquatic pet turtle: They are carnivore animals therefore; they like to have meat in their diet. One can also serve commercial pellet food to their freshwater pet turtle. You can get commercial pellet from any nearby pet store. It is a good idea to feed commercial pellet in their daily diet. It is a good idea to include live mealworms, crickets, earthworms and feeder goldfish in your turtle’s diet. One should try to avoid feeding their turtle in its home. It is advisable to feed them in a separate tub that is used only for them. Feeding them at other place will keep the turtle’s home much cleaner.
  2. Supplements for aquatic pet turtle: One can supplement their freshwater turtle diet with vitamins, calcium and phosphorous. Usually commercial food includes such supplements. The quantity of food that turtle requires is dependent on the size and nature of your turtle. Every turtle has different diet according to its size and nature .One can ask their pet store owner or veterinary about basic things like - how often to feed and give supplement to your pet turtle.
  3. Habitat for aquatic turtle: It is significant for one to provide proper habitat to their aquatic pet turtle. Make sure that the tank you provide your turtle to stay in is clean. It is advisable to have platform with steps in your tank in order to make your turtle climb. The aquatic turtle requires many things like:
    1. Lights for habitat: One should place UVA and UVB in their aquatic turtle habitat. The UVB light is significant for turtle as it helps in absorbing calcium properly.
    2. Heater for habitat: It is also one of the essential requirements of aquatic turtles. The ideal temperature for aquatic turtle in tank is 76 to 78 degrees and this can be easily achieved by placing submersible heater in the tank. The temperature in basking should be around 85 - 90 degrees.
    3. Water purifier for habitat: It is also significant to place water purifier in your turtle tank as they are messy creatures. In order to avoid bacterial growth in water, it is essential to use water purifier in your tank. It is a good idea to have submersible filters in your turtle tank as it can be placed under the water.

These are the basic requirements of an aquatic pet turtle that are very essential to be fulfilled. It is significant for one to provide clean and fresh food, clean water and suitable environment to their aquatic pet turtle.
