- It should not be escape proof.
- Enclosure should satisfy the specific requirements of a reptile.
- It should provide safety to the owner if it is to house venomous reptiles.
- Design of reptile enclosures: Second important thing that one should consider to build an enclosure for reptile is design. It should be design in such a way so that it can meet the above requirements easily. Make sure that it your enclosure is easy to use and provide efficient service to your reptile. The enclosure must not be a chore to clean. It should be design according to your ability. It should be design with the tools and knowledge that you have available. It also enhances the décor of your house. Therefore, it should be designed in such a way to make your house look pleasant.

- Lighting of reptile enclosure: Most of the reptile enclosures have UVA and UVB lights. One should provide ultraviolet light to their reptile by using a Reptistar fluoro tube or ReptiSun 5.0or ReptiSun 2.0. Reptistar and ReptiSun are one of the most common lights are used in reptile enclosures. It is important to provide proper lighting to your reptiles as it helps in increasing appetite, activity and reproductive behavior in captive reptiles. Moreover, it also helps to prevent diseases and infections occurring. Use of strong Blacklight Blue (BLB) or poster globes should be avoided as it can affect your reptile eyes.
One can also decorate their enclosure with artificial plants. Moreover one can also put rock wall and branches in it to make it look more beautiful. Building your own enclosure can be rewarding, fun and satisfying experience if done properly.
