Coral Snakes

When it comes to the extremely venomous snakes of Arizona then can anyone forget to mention the name of Coral Snake?? I am sure no one can do that blunder as this 12 to 30 inch coral snake is considered deadly when it bites a kid. Due to color attraction the kids try lifting it and hence they are bitten by it. But if you don’t have a kid at your place then a coral snake can be one of the very good options to keep as a pet.

Hey but wait, this does not mean that you can’t tame this snake, do not mistake coral snake to be an aggressive one, it bites only when someone provokes it. This relative of cobra is comparatively less venomous than cobra and the rattlesnake and thus makes a really good pet for the people who have had earlier experience of having snakes as pets.

Why Coral Snake make an ideal pet?

An average coral snakes length is somewhere between 20 to 30 meters and hatchlings are often noted to be just 6 or 7 inches. The handy size and attractive patterns make the coral snakes as ideal pets. Having patterns in white, black, red, yellow and off-white colors, this snake is very eye-catching and attractive to look at. One can find shades such as orange, pink and blood red also in this species.

Behavioral patterns of Coral Snake

This elusive snake is spends a major time staying buried in the hiding area provided. If you are planning to disturb your pet then be ready for a popping sound, this is one of the peculiar trait showed by coral snakes. You can feed your pet on stuffs like lizards, snakes, small amphibians and reptiles.

Are Coral Snakes really venomous to be kept as pets?

These reclusive pets attack only at the times when they are disturbed or provoked. Their small fangs attached to the top front jaw find it difficult to penetrate within the clothes and shoes when lest on the floor while handling. In case they bite you, they’ll generally hold you for a short span of time after it. If you are handling these snakes and your snake is not giving signals of delight then better not to try unsafe handling as the venom of this snake contains neurotoxin which is powerful enough to kill and adult. But the people who are good at handling snakes can for sure give taming coral snake a try. So, beware all that looks good is not actually good, this reclusive snake is good as a pet as far as there are no kids residing at your place and you’ve been an expert in handling various species of snakes. Feed it properly and let this eye catching snake become a point of gaping for all your visitors.
