Food For Green Iguana
Green iguana is a lizard with sharp claws and powerful limbs. It is more commonly known as American reptile/lizard. This reptile requires proper kind of diet in a food. Iguana prefers to have green vegetables, fruits, vitamin, minerals etc in its food.
Proper diet of food is necessary to grow, develop, maintain muscles tissue, organs, organ tissues, and just to keep running every thing properly.
For proper growth iguana needs protein, carbohydrates, fats, more amounts of fiber, vitamins, minerals and other required trace elements. Green iguana can live up to approximately 15 years.
Adult green iguana strictly prefers to have vegetarian food. Green iguana primarily feed on leaves, flowers, fruits, and different species of plants.
Younger green iguana may like to have animal meat. This adds to their fats, muscles and immune system. Younger green iguana should be fed 2 times in a day, whereas adult green iguana can be fed only one time in a day.
Never provide a green iguana with ‘iceberg lettuce’. Feeding iguana with iceberg lettuce will lead to lack of nutrient in their body. It will lack the wish to eat green leafy vegetables and can also result in the death of iguana.

- High greens Calcium in diet: Iguanas are reptiles that are pure vegetarians. Green iguana needs high green Calcium in diet. Calcium can be fed to iguana with greens in diet included i.e. Kale, collards, arugula, watercress, turnip greens, mustard greens etc.
- Vegetable included in diet: Nitrogen rich green beans are a good addition to the reptile diet. Iguana likes to have more amounts of fresh vegetables in diet. Iguana loves to have leafy lettuces in diet like spinach, parsley and romaine. Reptiles can also be feed with carrots, parsnips, Brussels sprouts, cantaloupes, Cauliflower, celery and cucumber. Mk Salad is also very much important in the diet of a reptile.
- Fruits in Diet : Diet of green iguana must include fruits. Fruit in the diet will maintain potassium and phosphorus in reptile body. A proper amount of calcium, potassium and phosphors in diet will lead to keep the green iguana healthy and happy. Fruits should be cut into chunks with its skin and fed to reptile. Fruits include strawberry, raspberry, cantaloupe, bananas, grapes, and cherries.
- Vitamin and mineral rich diet : Vitamin and mineral should be included in the diet of a green iguana. This ensures a healthy, active and quick growth of reptile. Iguana should be provided with whole grains foods, such as rice and bread. This food will provide mineral and vitamins to iguana and they like to have it in their diet.
- Avoiding things from diet: Beet green and Chard should be strictly avoided being fed to the iguana. This item contains oxalic acids in it which are harmful for the health of an iguana. Other things which should be avoided from iguana's food are wild cherries, sugar, lemon, alcohol, chocolates, toxic mushrooms, Easter lilies, Mountain laurel, and house plants.
