Pet Turtle Habitat

The first thing that you need to consider while purchasing a pet turtle is a place for turtle to stay. For keeping the turtle as a pet you should have a pet turtle habitat. Different turtle habitats with different sizes, materials and colors are available in the market. One should select the habitat for their turtle according to his and his turtle’s requirements. One should consider several things before purchasing habitat for their turtle.

  1. Turtle habitat should sufficiently meet the turtle’s lifestyle requirements.
  2. It should be easy to maintain and clean it.
  3. Habitat of your turtle should be spacious enough so that your turtle can reside and relax properly.
  4. It should provide ornamental value to your home.

Turtle habitats can be of two types - indoor habitat or outdoor habitat. Indoor turtle habitats are quite similar to fish aquariums whereas the outdoor turtle habitats are similar to garden ponds. Both turtle habitats required certain things in order to make it a perfect place to live in for a turtle.

Requirements of pet turtle habitat:

  1. Tank for turtle habitat: Ensure that the turtle tank you purchase for turtle can hold your turtle when it reaches maturity. Turtle tank can be made of acrylic, glass, wood, plastic or stone. The tank you purchase for your turtle should be made of a strong material. It should be spacious enough so that he can stay there comfortably. The one who wants to have outdoor habitat for their turtle doesn’t require any tank. All they need is a pond in their garden.
  2. Land area in turtle habitat: After purchasing tank one should add land area in their tank. It is a good idea to place land stick on that land area for turtle to climb. It should be neat and clean as it is the place where your turtle will relax. Outdoor turtle habitat should add land area in their garden pond.
  3. Add water in turtle tank: Before placing turtle in your tank it is significant for one to add clean water in it. The water of your turtle habitat should be cleaned every 45 days in order to avoid infections. It is advisable to put a tablespoon of salt in 4 – 5 liters of water to avoid bacterial growth.
  4. Decorate your turtle habitat: One can decorate their turtle habitat with things like – artificial plant, branches, gravel, shells, driftwood, commercial decorations and veins. Make sure that the decoration you purchase for your turtle’s habitat should not be smaller than your turtle’s mouth as they can swallow it. The decoration items should be placed appropriately in order to make your pet habitat look attractive.
  5. Basking light in turtle habitat: Light is one of the essential requirements of turtles. It is advisable to avoid direct sunlight in your turtle’s habitat as it can help algae grow in your tank. However, it is a good idea to place basking light in it.
  6. Water purifier in turtle habitat: It is significant for one to have water purifier in their turtle’s habitat because they are messy creatures. Water purifier helps in maintaining the quality of your water.

The above mentioned turtle habitat requirements are necessary to be fulfilled to help a turtle live and grow healthily and comfortably.
