1. Always do some research- Before you choose a pet always do some research on the food habits and other essentials of the kind of pet you wish to keep. For instance small reptiles like geckos primarily relish crickets. Other insects like wax worms, silkworms, giant mealworms, mealworms, locusts, etc are also fed to small reptiles. While larger reptiles prefer baby mice, rabbits, chicks and rats. Besides their regular diet, they can also be occasionally treated with chocolate coated locusts or crickets.
2. Always get pet food from reliable stores- It has often been found that some stores sell weak or diseased insects. These can be very harmful for your pets. 3. Keep the live food healthy- Whenever you order live food in bulk always take care to feed it so that they remain healthy and nutritious. Ill fed insects may starve, fall sick and eventually die if not fed adequately. Crickets for instance can be fed fresh vegetables and fruits.
4. Always keep the terrarium clean- Always take care to house your live pet food in healthy terrarium. Unhealthy and untidy environment may make them unsafe for your pets
5. Keep the proportion in mind- While purchasing food for your reptile always keep size in your mind. If the size of your reptile is smaller than the mice or rat that you feed him it may injure or bruise it.
6. Offer him just enough food- Never overfeed your pet, specially live food, for all you know the live food may start feeding on your reptile
7. Offer other food supplements to your pets- Calcium and vitamins are a must for your pets. They make them strong and increase their immunity. These supplements can be offered to them by coating the insects with their powder.
