REPTILE HEAT CORDS

Everybody is most happy when he is where he belongs. But when we decide to keep pets it becomes our moral responsibility to keep them happy. For that we can always try to create an atmosphere which is very congenial and which closely resembles its natural habitat.
A pet which is active during the day would prefer the direct heat of the sun while a nocturnal pet would prefer heat from below where he can bask to retain his body heat. Diurnal reptiles love to bask in the sunlight as they digest their food.

Heaters which heat the whole terrarium- some heaters are designed to heat the whole place. They generally increase the temperature of the place where your pet is kept.

Heat Rocks- some heaters only heat the bottom of the terrarium. They are specially designed for this purpose, like basking rocks or heat rocks. Their purpose is to provide heat to the pet to maintain the heat of its body.

Kind of pet-the heating source depends on the kind of reptile you have. Whatever heating system you choose for always take care that he does not go too close to the source as he might injure himself beyond repair.

Heating Appliance should be be maintained properly it should not be distorted. They should not be bent or worn out. They should be checked regularly. A thermometer is a must which can help us in monitoring the temperature of the terrarium.

Our pet stores provide us with a lot of variety of choice to fulfill our need. Some of the heating appliances provided are-
  1. Incandescent Light Bulbs- They serve a dual purpose of heating the place by maintaining a constant temperature and also providing heat at a particular spot for the pets to bask.
  2. Ceramic Heaters- they provide heat as well as light. They are huge bulbs with a flat top made out of ceramic. They provide light and heat at a particularly desired area.
  3. Porcelain Heaters- they are similar to ceramic heaters, but of porcelain.
  4. Heating Panels- they are placed right on top of the pet’s habitat, to heat it uniformly.
  5. Heating Mats and carpets.- They are usually kept below the cage of pet, and they heat the terrarium from below.
  6. Heating strips- They very much resemble the heating mats except that they are smaller in size. They should be attached in places which are not directly accessible to the pets as they, might burn themselves.
  7. Heat Rocks- They are artificial rocks. they are basically designed for the reptiles to bask in the sun during the day to maintain the temperature of their body. It gives them the feeling of being in their natural habitat.

So, are you now well aware of the pros and cons of a reptile heat cord? Always remember to choose the type of reptile heat cord which is safe for your reptile. Remember, it is always important to create just the right environment in the dwelling place of your reptile or else no one but you will be held responsible for the down-fall in the health of your reptile.
