Snake Cages

With the thought of owning a pet, the very next thing striking your mind should be its cage. The size and pattern of the cage completely depends upon the species of snake you are willing to tame.

Basically two basic species according to which the cage must be styled. First is the terrestrial specie which is very comfortable in horizontal cages while the second is the one which loves to climb trees and heights, for this specie you’ll have to have a vertical style cage.

A healthy pet snake demands a clean and dry cage. If you own specie which loves to spend the major portion of the day in water then too you’ll have to provide it with enough of drying space. There shall be sufficient space both for soaking as well as for drying. This helps the snake to stay away from skin diseases. Moreover, great attention should be paid that there is some direct source of unfiltered sunlight in the cage. This helps to the snake to maintain a healthy skin.

Having a snake cage at your place is never a major issue as one can design a plastic box, sweater or blanket box, aquariums and even wooden box as a snake cage. Whatever it is, all you need to keep in mind is that there should be ample room of cross ventilation in the cage. The cross ventilation requirement should be fulfilled in such a manner that the snake does not find a way of escaping from it. Pay proper heed towards that the top and bottom of the cage is not left insecurely loose. Another thing to be kept in mind is that the water bowl within need to be cleaned and changed daily so that it does not become mucky.

Moreover, great care should be taken of the temperature to be maintained in the cage. The level of humidity suitable for the pet specie you own should be maintained in the cage. As snake generally has its habitat in hotter regions, the ideal temperature range suitable for most of the species is something around 25 to 30. A lower temperature will make your pet snake loose its appetite.

Coming on to the furniture in the cage, one can include tiny furniture such as cardboard boxes inverted within or wooden pegs. Hiding spaces should also be well taken care of. Artificial vines and branches give the cage a feel of the natural habitat. You can also put in some heavy non rolling logs, but mind it that they should never roll in a manner that they might hurt your pet.

So if you are planning to buy a cage or have plans to decorate your own keep in minds the points mentioned above so that you give your pet snake a soothing and comfortable feel.
