Spider Feeding

Spiders are carnivorous creatures. When they are hatchlings they should first be given crickets or something of similar size and as they grow, a variety of live food can be supplied, of a size appropriate to the spider. An adult will not necessarily feed every day and the amount of prey it takes will vary. All spiders should have a constant supply of fresh clean drinking water. A spider considers anything that moves and if smaller than its size, it is suitable for its eating. This includes other spiders, even its own offspring, so do not consider keeping more than one spider in a tank. For a detailed know-how of spider feeding; scroll down to read the following account.

Pet Spider Food

Your pet spiders relish creepy crawlies of every kind. For most spiders meal worms, flies, moths, crickets, butterflies or even roaches form a suitable meal. You can find this meal in plenty around the garden or your street.

Feeding a Spider

Catch or purchase a multiplicity of insects. Spiders like to eat bugs and it is most likely that they do not consume any other type of diet. Before giving an insect to be eaten by your spider, feed it abundantly in order to make sure that your spider gets the best and the most of nutrition. Feed your spider at least a few times every week. For a young spider this is especially important that it is fed on regular basis.

Do not forget to provide some water in a shallow dish. Keep replacing the water as required. Make sure that the dish in which you are providing water to your spider is a shallow one, so that there are no chances for your spider to drown in it. Even a section of a wet sponge placed inside the enclosure of your spider works nicely.

While you are feeding your spider, make sure that it does not escape. To avoid its escape, as soon as you put the insects inside, put back the cover of its enclosure. While cleaning up your spider’s home, remove the entrails if there are any.

Tips for Feeding a Spider

  1. Always purchase live insects from the pet store during winters. You can also set your pet free outside before the weather gets cold.
  2. If the insects caught indoors have a chance to have been exposed to household insecticides, do not feed your spider with such insects.

A spider can prove to be a great pet for a person who loves exotic animals. Spiders are those pets that need very low maintenance and the cost to take care of them is little as well. For spider owner, pet tarantulas are a very famous choice. Really large spiders will take baby mice or even those that are half grown and these should be supplied freshly killed when you think your spider is hungry; but if they have not been eaten within a short time they should be removed from the tank or they will begin to decompose. Now, you are acquainted with the guidelines of spider feeding, so feed your spider well and keep it hale and hearty.
