How to Raise Pigeon Eggs

If you have a soft corner for pets deep in your heart and are truly deeply attached to nature, then raising pigeon eggs will never be a problem for you. But before you enter into raising the egg, make sure you’ve not just picked up an egg discarded from the nest. In case the egg is an abandoned case, the risk of it being dead is much higher. You can also make the attempt of keeping the eggs near to the pigeon nest, but not into it. If you are not able to do any of these things are all set to raise the pigeon egg then let us go for it.

Incubation period of pigeon eggs: Generally, the period of incubation for pigeon eggs can range somewhere between 2 weeks to 18 days, entirely depending upon the temperature in which it is kept. The ideal temperature within the incubator should be between 35 to 37 degrees. Remember, the eggs need warmth and not heat.

Further handling of the pigeon egg: If you are not able to arrange for an incubator, then probably you should place the egg in an airing space. The temperature of the area to be constantly maintained should never exceed 99.5 degree Fahrenheit. Putting in a damp cloth, to maintain humidity is also not a bad idea.

Alternative options for incubator : In case by any means you are neither able to arrange neither an incubator nor any place where you can find an ideal temperature, you can for sure put the egg in a box which should be placed under a dim lamp. You’ll have to keep a constant watch over the temperature through the means of a thermometer. You must also take care of turning the egg just ones a day. Remember never to turn off the lamp; instead one can regulate the temperature just by varying the height of the lamp from the egg.

Candling the pigeon egg: After few days, just try getting an idea that if there is any growth taking place within or not. A safe way to find out if there is some growth within is through a process called candling. Candling is an important part if you are keeping more than one egg as a dead embryo can contaminate the remaining eggs easily. Now let us have a glance at how to candle eggs. To candle an egg all one needs is a torch with the lens size of a coin or else a commercial Candler. Now all you need to do is just hold the egg in a dark room facing the light source and try to see if there is a black spot within the egg. If it is then the embryo has survived or else you’ll see a red ring round the yolk, this indicates that the embryo could not survive. In case the egg is infertile you’ll not find any of the two things within.

So, after you are done with all the procedures are sure to welcome a new chirpy sibling, just stay happy and make arrangements for its living place and feeding. Hope you’ll get through with the procedure well.
