Pigeon Feed

In order to feed pigeons efficiently, it is necessary to know something about its natural eating habits and requirement. Mostly pigeons have low or non fiber diet. Pet pigeons do not have access to nature’s food therefore; pigeon owners should give their pets the best possible diet. Mostly pigeons are fed on grains and seed. There are several; types of feeds that can be offered to pigeons such as – fruits, Vegetables, pellets, vitamins and minerals. It is a good option to serve normal pigeon mix to your pigeon. This packet must be available at your nearby bird pet store. The drinking water of your pigeon should be changed regularly in order to avoid bacterial growth. Some of the common feeds that can be served to pigeon are mentioned below.

Pigeon feed:

  1. Vegetables for pigeon: Pigeons love to be fed with fruits and vegetables therefore one should add vegetables in their pigeon’s diet. It is advisable to feed fresh and clean vegetables to your pigeon. Green vegetables such as serve endive, chickweed, watercress, spinach can be used in your pigeon’s feed.
  2. Fruits for pigeon: As said above, pigeons loves to eat fruits therefore one should include fruits in their pigeon’s diet. Fruits will help in keeping your pigeon health in addition; it will also work as a supplement. Fruits like – apple, pears, berries, grape fruit, oranges, chopped raisins soaked in water are liked by pigeons. It is advisable to feed fresh and clean fruit to your pigeon.
  3. Pellets for pigeons: Pellets are healthy for a pigeon. They are mostly served to supplement pigeon’s diet with real meat proteins. Since it contains high proteins and amino acid therefore, pellets are essential to be included in your pigeon’s diet.
  4. Seeds for pigeon: seed is the most common feed that is served to a pigeon. Therefore, they work fine as a pigeon’s feed. Seeds such as - barley, linseed, sunflower, safflower, corn, green peas and canary seeds can be served to a pigeon.
  5. Vitamins and minerals: It is significant to add supplements such as – calcium, grit, gravel vitamin and mineral in your pigeon’s diet. One can mix basic supplements like calcium, vitamins, grit and gravel in their pigeons’ drinking water.

Pigeons can also be served with oats, wheat, corn and peas. Food such as – linseed, rape and ringer can be eaten up every kind of pigeons. However, food such as - eat white ant larvae, wood lice, worms and cleaned maggots are liked by some pigeons. It is important for one to serve fresh and healthy food to your pet pigeon. It is advisable to clean the leftover food form their pigeon cage in order to avoid bacterial growth. One should try to avoid addition of antibiotics in the food of their pigeons.
