Correct pigeon food with proper nutrition is one of the most important factors for a healthy and contented pigeon. Every pet store provides different food for pigeons. The finest food for pigeons is a mixture of quality grains. Pigeons can eat a wide variety of food. One should take extra care on a pigeon’s diet in order to make them healthy. One must know just like humans, pigeons require proper food in order to have healthy survival.
One should offer around 500 gm food every week to their adult pigeons in order to make sure that they are receiving high quality nutrition. It is a good option to offer corn to your pigeon in winters as it includes fat that helps to insulate pigeon. Choosing best food for your pigeon require a little understanding as it is dependent on the digestive system of your pigeon. If the digestive system of your pigeon is week then you should offer light food to him and if it is good then you can include nay type of food in its diet. One can offer basic food to their pigeons for it to survive.
Pigeon food:
- Seeds for pigeon: Pigeons mostly prefer seeds in their diet. Therefore, they are quite admired by people as their pigeon’s diet. One can feed several types of seeds to their pigeon like – barley, linseed, sunflower, safflower, corn, green peas and canary seeds.
- Vegetables for pigeon: One can also add vegetables in their pigeon’s diet. One can feed fresh green vegetables to their pigeons. It is a good idea to include fresh green vegetables such as serve endive, chickweed, watercress, spinach in your pigeon’s feed. Make sure that the vegetables you offer to your pigeon are clean and fresh. It significant for one to clean left over food from the cage in order to avoid bacterial growth
- Fruits for pigeon: It is a good idea to offer fruits to your pigeon as they will help in keeping your pet healthy moreover, it will also work as a supplement. Fruits like – apple, pears, berries, grape fruit, oranges, chopped raisins soaked in water can also be offered to pigeons. Make sure that the fruits you offer to your pigeon are clean and fresh. It significant for one to clean left over fruit from the cage in order to avoid bacterial growth.
- Pellets for pigeons: Pellets is a wholesome meal for pigeon. They are basically offered to supplement their diet with real meat proteins. It is significant for one to provide pellets to their pigeon because it contains high proteins and amino acid. One should avoid addition of antibiotics in the food of their pigeons as much as possible.
- Vitamins and minerals: It is significant to add vitamin and mineral supplements in your pigeon’s diet. One can add basic supplements like calcium, vitamins, grit, gravel in their water.
It is significant for one to offer fresh and healthy food and water to their pet pigeon. One should clean the leftover food form their pigeon case to avoid bacterial growth and it is advisable to change drinking water of your pigeon regularly as that can also lead to bacterial growth.
