Pigeon Leg Bands

Pigeon Leg BandsPigeon leg bands are used by pigeon owners for identification of pigeons. People usually put band on their pet pigeon leg so that they can recognize them easily. Make sure when you purchase pigeon it should be seamless banded. A properly fitted seamless band can make your pigeons more valuable.

Pigeon leg bands are also known as pigeon rings. Numbering on pigeon leg band is done just to keep the track of individual pigeon in a flock. It is difficult to differentiate individual pigeon in a flock therefore; it is a good idea to put band on their leg in order to keep the track of individual bird. It is significant for one to offer proper fitting, color coded, and seamless band to their pigeon in order to keep the track of individual pigeon in a flock. At times people remove seamless bands from broken or injured legs pigeons and continue to use the number from the removed band to identify the bird in his records. One can use that number or any other number to identify a pigeon. Banding a leg with band is a good idea to avoid duplication.

Many pigeon fanciers have banded their pigeon’s leg with some type of a band. There are wide ranges of pigeon leg band with different colors and size in market. One can easily get suitable leg band for his pigeon from the nearby bird pet store. Pet store will provide you guide chart along with that band to assist you with band size for a particular breed of pigeon.

One can cut the band from their pigeon’s leg if the pigeon grow legs too large in order to avoid injuries in bird’s leg. Bands can also be used to identify whether your bird is growing or not. Make sure that the band you purchase for your pigeon should be appropriate for the size of your pigeon, as an inappropriate pigeon’s leg band can harm your pigeon’s leg. Remove or cut it whenever you feel it necessary. It is a good option to have a band just a tiny bit larger than necessary.

If your pigeon is having the band that is too large that slides over to knee or foot then you must use a leg gauge to measure the size of your pigeon’s leg to get it banded properly. Pigeon leg band is mostly banded a few days after being hatched. This helps the breeders to keep the record of their pigeon’s hatch date, medical reports, ownership and their pigeon’s history. At times the bands can lead to serious injuries when it gets caught on toys, open wires or hooks. Therefore, one should have proper size band for their pigeon.
