Pigeon SpeciesWhen it comes to domestication of pigeons, there are hundreds and thousands of species which can be enlisted but useless to mention, the most common one for sure is the rock dove. It is believed to have been domesticated by ancestors of our ancestors. Now in the era when domestication of pigeons is not merely limited to rock doves, let us have a glance at some of the fanciful pigeon species which people are keen to breed now.

Basically the pigeon are endless, but fortunately to make things easier, we are enlisting few of them which are amazingly beautiful. Now it is the time to dig these species further to discover the beautiful world of pigeons. Come let’s have a glace.

Voice pigeons and Asian feather pigeons: Pointless to mention, this is an Asian breed of pigeons which have been worked upon due to extensive feathering. These breeds are also given due importance for their trumpeting voices. Some of the common species of these pigeons are ice pigeon, fantails, trumpeter, frill back, Lahore and Jacobin.

Frills and owls pigeon : Having a short beak and reversed feathers on their chest, this specie is known as Frills. Coming to term owls, they have a strong resemblance with owls in the sense that they have an inverted beak like that of an owl. Some of the very common species of the given type are Italian Owl, Turbit, African Owl, Aachen Lacquer Shield Owl, Oriental Frill, Chinese Owl, Old German Owl and Italian Owl.

Color pigeon: This specie is a basic originator of Germany and many times you can come across them named as German Toys. This is specie full of bright and lively colors with beautiful markings. Some of the common pigeons of this specie which can be easily seen are Swallow, Archangel, Starling, Thuringen Field Pigeon, Saxon Field Pigeon and Danish Suabian.

Croppers and pouters pigeon: This is a special variety of pigeon having the ability of crop inflation. Some of the common names of this specie are Holle Cropper, Voorburg Shield Cropper, Norwich Cropper, Pouter, English Pouter, Gaditano Pouter and Brunner Pouter.

Hen and homing pigeon: Hen pigeon has an upturned tail which gives it the perfect resemblance of female chicken and thus it is named so. Not having many options, we have just modern in the list. Jumping over to homing pigeons, this is a specie which is known for their homing ability such as show type racing etc. Some of the common names in the specie are German Beauty Homer, Dragoon, American show racer, Homing Pigeon and English Carrier.

There are many other species too without which the world of pigeons might be incomplete. To name a few of them I can just randomly pick the names of Exhibition Tumblers, Highfliers, Flying Tumblers and Utility Pigeons. The Exhibition Tumblers are exceptionally beautiful and are kept exclusively for ornamentations and exhibitions on the other hand Flying Tumblers and high flyers are among the sporty pigeon breeds having acrobatic vibes.
