Rock Pebbler Pigeon

Rock pebbler pigeon are quite admired by people because of their dazzling looks. The scientific name of rock pebbler pigeon is polytelis anthopeplus and is mostly found in southwest and southeast regions of Australia. It is also known as – Regent parrot, back tailed parakeet, smoker, marlock parakeet and regent parakeet. They make a good pet as they are social bird. Rock pebbler loves to entertain themselves and love their freedom. They enjoy whenever they left alone. They hardly require any care and enjoy human interactions.

Male rock pebbler has yellow body with orange plumage around the neck and clown. The wings of male rock pebbler are yellow. Whereas, female rock pebbler has more of olive color body with blue – green tail and have a pink tip on the underside.

Behavior of rock pebbler pigeon:

They are very friendly in nature and easily interact with people around them. They are not prone to any disease but at times they suffer from intestinal worms or fungal infections if they are not kept in hygienic condition. The cement floor of their outdoor or indoor housing should be clean as their natural instincts to eat on the ground. Rock pebbler loves to have vegetables and fruits in their diet. Make sure that the food you serve to rock pebbler is clean in order to prevent them from intestinal worms or fungal infections. These birds are nervous with their nesting so try to leave them alone when nesting. They are very energetic and enthusiastic bird. These birds love to fly and chew in their free time. One should provide them enough space so that they can fly easily. Provide them some toys and wood chews, perches and swings.

Diet of rock pebbler pigeon:

They like to have copped mixture for large parrots in their diet. One can also feed eggfood, fruits, vegetables, sprouting seeds and insects. These birds do not require grit in their diet. Grit should only be given by prescription of a certified veterinarian. You can supplement their diet with fresh wallow or fruit tree branch. Fresh food and water should be provided regularly to this bird.

Housing for rock pebbler pigeon:

They require roomy cage to stay in and allow them some time out of the cage as well, so that they can fly high. They like to stay in aviary in a group of two or more.

Maintenance of rock pebbler pigeon:

One should clean the water and food of this bird regularly in order to avoid bacterial growth. Weekly cleaning of all the perches, floor and toys are essential. House of rock pebble pigeon should be clean regularly.

Breeding/Reproduction rock pebbler pigeon:

This bird produces brood per year. Female rock pebble pigeon will lay four to six eggs in their nest. Egg will hatch in other 21 days and fledge in about 40 days. Rock pebbler pigeon will leave its nest in about 50 days. The young hatchling will be cared with both male and female rock pebbler pigeon. One can feed normal feed to them during this period. The young rock pebbler pigeon begins to fly in five weeks.
