What Does Jack Rabbit Eat
The black tailed Jack Rabbit that is largely found at Western part of the United States and northern side of Mexico is a popular breed of rabbit. The jack rabbit is actually the name given to the LEPUS CALIFORNICUS breed of rabbits as the ears of these rabbits look similar to those of the jack ass. This rabbit is not a domestic rabbit and the common habitat of the black tailed jack rabbit is the desert and grasslands.
The jack rabbits are mostly grey brown in color and they have white marks on the forehead, around their eyes and at the back of their ears. The most distinctive feature of the jack rabbit is undoubtedly the ears and they are about four to five inches long and the tip of the ears is black in color. The jack rabbits are typically large sized rabbits that can grow up to fifteen to twenty inches and weigh more that seven pounds. If you are wondering what does jack rabbit eat? In the time of spring and summer the main food of the jack rabbits is the forbs and green grass of the grassland. In extreme dry and hot conditions of the year the jack rabbits also survive on cacti that are abundant in the area where these jack rabbits are mostly seen.
The jack rabbits as they live mostly in the deserts and dry areas do not get sufficient water to drink. They get the major part of the required water through the grasses and green plants that they eat as the main food. Moreover the food that they get is not sufficient for proper nutrition and they lack in protein and vitamin that they need. To overcome this deficiency in protein and other nutrients jack rabbits eat the fecal pellets. The young jack rabbits consume the pellets of the mother.

You can make the rabbit eat anything that is green and if you can train them to eat green and fresh vegetables and fruits from a young age, they will easily adopt to the food. It provides them all the required nutrients that they need for their growth.
